GYNECOLOGY

Yearly Exam

Yearly pelvic exams are important for monitoring your gynecologic health and screening for infection, inflammation, or other abnormal cells that may indicate disease. Pap smears are performed at appropriate, individualized intervals based on age and history.

Early detection is important in treating any disease and especially important for cervical cancer and other potentially life-threatening diseases.

Annual exams are recommended for women who are sexually active or over the age of 18.

During the exam, Dr. Gold examines your thyroid gland, breasts, and pelvic organs for any abnormalities or changes. During a Pap smear, he will remove some cells from your cervix to screen for cancer or pre-cancerous changes.

An annual exam is one of the most important steps you can take for your gynecologic health.

Contraception/Birth Control

Choosing a method of contraception is an important decision that will impact a woman’s daily life. Talking with Dr. Gold about which method is right for you is essential to the successful protection of your situation.

Dr. Gold will provide you with information about all of the different types of contraceptives and their respective advantages. Birth control methods differ and vary in terms of frequency, convenience, permanence, and effectiveness.

Menopausal Treatment

Many women encounter a wide range of symptoms including hot flashes, irregular bleeding, night sweats, insomnia, fatigue, depression, sexual issues, and more as they navigate the post-reproductive years.

There are several treatment options available to help relieve these symptoms, and Dr. Gold can help you decide which option is best for you.

Prescription medication with estrogen and progesterone, known as hormone replacement therapy, is a popular treatment for women to treat symptoms of menopause and reduce the risk of osteoporosis. Patients will receive customized treatments for their individual needs, including vaginal rejuvenation and eliminating urinary incontinence.

PMS Counseling & Treatment

Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) and premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) are common conditions that are associated with symptoms related to the menstrual cycle and can include mood swings, depression, food cravings, fatigue, bloating, and cramping.

If one or more of these symptoms is affecting your ability to function in your everyday life, Dr. Gold has expertise in this area. He will discuss lifestyle modifications and can utilize different medications (e.g. vitamins, oral contraceptives, diuretics, and anti-depressants) when appropriate.

HPV Testing & Prevention

There are more than 100 different types of Human Papillomavirus (HPV), both low and high risk.  Low-risk HPV (type 6 and 11) are viruses that cause benign genital warts. Many other strains, classified as high risk, will show no symptoms but can eventually lead to cancers of the cervix, vulva, vagina, and anus.

While the HPV virus cannot be eliminated, treatments for its symptoms, such as genital warts, cervical changes, and cervical cancer, are available.

A vaccine for the prevention of HPV is available and can be discussed with Dr. Gold.

STI Testing & Treatment

Most sexually transmitted diseases (STIs) have no symptoms, therefore it is hard to know if you have been infected without proper screening. We offer safe and confidential STI testing.  If you are diagnosed with an STI, most everyone can be treated safely and effectively.
